[SMM Stainless Steel Daily Review: Macro Tailwinds Drive SS Futures Higher, Stainless Steel Transactions Recover but Prices Hold Steady] SMM December 1 news, SS futures showed a strong performance, stopping falling and rebounding. Influenced by rising expectations for a US Fed interest rate cut in December, metal futures generally rose today, with SS futures also strengthening in sync, climbing to 12,470 yuan/mt during the session. On the spot market side, driven by the strength in SS futures, market sentiment improved. Additionally, stimulated by recent news of production cuts at stainless steel mills, the previously sluggish transaction activity saw improvement, with inquiries and deals noticeably increasing during the day. Currently, market transactions remain heavily influenced by futures price changes, with downstream buyers showing clear periodic restocking operations. However, after macro tailwinds are released, transactions may turn sluggish again, as cautious sentiment remains strong, making it difficult to raise actual transaction prices for now. The most-traded SS futures contract strengthened and probed higher. At 10:30 am, SS2601 was quoted at 12,370 yuan/mt, up 15 yuan/mt from the previous trading day. In the Wuxi region, spot premiums/discounts for 304/2B were in the range of 350-550 yuan/mt. In the spot market, the average price for cold-rolled 201/2B coil in Wuxi was reported at 8,025 yuan/mt; for cold-rolled mill-edge 304/2B coil, the average price was 12,625 yuan/mt in Wuxi and 12,650 yuan/mt in Foshan; for cold-rolled 316L/2B coil, the price was 23,800 yuan/mt in Wuxi and 23,800 yuan/mt in Foshan; for hot-rolled 316L/NO.1 coil, Wuxi reported 23,250...

SMM reported on December 1 that SS futures showed a trend of stopping falling and rebounding, with strong performance. Influenced by heightened expectations for a US Fed interest rate cut in December, metal futures generally rose today, and SS futures also strengthened in sync, once climbing to 12,470 yuan/mt during the session. In the spot market, driven by the strength in SS futures, market sentiment improved. Additionally, stimulated by recent news of production cuts at stainless steel mills, the previously sluggish transaction situation improved, with inquiries and transactions noticeably increasing during the day. Currently, market transactions are still significantly affected by the fluctuations in futures prices, with downstream sectors showing obvious periodic restocking operations. However, after the release of macro tailwinds is complete, transactions may become sluggish again, as cautious sentiment remains strong in the market, and actual transaction prices are temporarily difficult to increase.

The most-traded SS futures contract strengthened and probed higher. At 10:30 a.m., SS2601 was quoted at 12,370 yuan/mt, up 15 yuan/mt from the previous trading day. In Wuxi, spot premiums/discounts for 304/2B were in the range of 350-550 yuan/mt. In the spot market, the average price for cold-rolled 201/2B coil in Wuxi was reported at 8,025 yuan/mt; for cold-rolled mill-edge 304/2B coil, the average price in Wuxi was 12,625 yuan/mt, and in Foshan 12,650 yuan/mt; for cold-rolled 316L/2B coil in Wuxi, 23,800 yuan/mt, and in Foshan 23,800 yuan/mt; for hot-rolled 316L/NO.1 coil, Wuxi reported 23,250 yuan/mt; for cold-rolled 430/2B coil, both Wuxi and Foshan were at 7,600 yuan/mt.

Recently, after the US Fed released dovish signals, the possibility of an interest rate cut in December increased again, and US dollar liquidity may further ease. Driven by this macro tailwind, the metal futures market overall showed a strengthening trend. Among them, SS futures ended the continuous decline since late October and rebounded from the low point since 2020. At the same time, spot prices also rebounded in sync. Influenced by the market mentality of rushing to buy amid continuous price rise and holding back amid price downturn, along with trading firms engaging in both spot and futures markets purchasing spot cargo to close short futures positions, plus the concentrated release of demand previously suppressed by cautious wait-and-see attitudes due to price declines, market demand noticeably recovered. Supply side, recent news of production cuts emerged from several steel mills. The scope of cuts mainly expanded from 200-series stainless steel to 400-series, and a steel mill in Guangxi planned to conduct maintenance shutdowns in December. Although the actual implemented volume of cuts remains to be seen, an overall decline in stainless steel production may have become a foregone conclusion. Cost side, high-grade NPI prices further declined and returned. Although this price has fallen below the cost line of domestic nickel pig iron producers, it is difficult to find support under the overall weak market performance, and the cost support for stainless steel further weakened. Despite the recent rise in stainless steel spot prices driven by macro tailwinds and news of steel mills cutting production, market pessimism continues to linger due to weakening cost support and persistently weak year-end demand, leaving some risk of a pullback.

[SMM Stainless Steel Daily Review] News-Driven Disturbances Pushed SS Futures Higher to Test the Upside, Confidence in the Stainless Steel Spot Market Gradually Recovered SMM News, March 24: SS futures rose strongly. Affected by market fluctuations triggered by news of geopolitical conflict yesterday, SS futures rose sharply in the night session, and the daytime session maintained a fluctuating but relatively strong trend, closing at 14,290 yuan/mt by midday. In the spot market, boosted by the sharp rise in SS futures, market confidence somewhat recovered; although the increase in traders' spot quotations was limited, both inquiries and transactions showed signs of recovery during the week. The current market is heavily disturbed by news factors, and changes in the geopolitical conflict still need close attention. The most-traded SS futures contract strengthened and moved higher. At 10:15 a.m., SS2605 was quoted at 14,305 yuan/mt, up 125 yuan/mt from the previous trading day. Spot premiums for 304/2B in Wuxi were in the range of 115-315 yuan/mt. In the spot market, the average price of cold-rolled 201/2B coils in Wuxi rose by 50 yuan/mt; for cold-rolled trim-edge 304/2B coils, the average price in Wuxi rose by 50 yuan/mt, while the average price in Foshan was unchanged; cold-rolled 316L/2B coils in Wuxi were unchanged; for hot-rolled 316L/NO.1 coils, Wuxi quotations were unchanged; cold-rolled 430/2B coils in both Wuxi and Foshan were also unchanged. As the market entered the traditional peak consumption season of "Golden March and Silver April," although the stainless steel market ushered in a seasonal recovery window, end-use demand fell short of expectations, downstream wait-and-see sentiment gradually intensified, and the procurement side only maintained a restocking pace for rigid demand, with none of the transaction momentum typically seen in the peak season emerging. The market's view on stainless steel prices...

[SMM Stainless Steel Daily Review] SS Futures Oscillated Higher, Stainless Steel Spot Prices Rose in Tandem SMM News, March 23: SS futures oscillated higher and tested upward. Although the escalation of geopolitical conflicts in Iran weighed on the broader nonferrous futures, nickel and SS futures maintained a strong upward trend, closing at 14,140 yuan/mt by the midday break. In the spot market, agents of steel mills raised quotations, and coupled with the strong performance of SS futures, stainless steel spot prices moved higher during the day. Driven by the mentality of rush to buy amid continuous price rise and hold back amid price downturn, downstream end-users showed improved inquiry and trading activity. At present, stainless steel mills are under significant cost pressure, and the market holds strong expectations for cost support to prices. Although macro factors may limit any substantial price rise, room for a pullback is also constrained. The most-traded SS futures contract strengthened and moved higher. At 10:15 a.m., SS2605 was quoted at 14,180 yuan/mt, up 30 yuan/mt from the previous trading day. Spot premiums for 304/2B in Wuxi were in the range of 190-390 yuan/mt. In the spot market, the average price of cold-rolled 201/2B coil in Wuxi rose by 50 yuan/mt; for cold-rolled trim-edge 304/2B coil, the average price in Wuxi was flat, while that in Foshan rose by 50 yuan/mt; cold-rolled 316L/2B coil in Wuxi was unchanged; hot-rolled 316L/NO.1 coil was quoted flat in Wuxi; cold-rolled 430/2B coil in both Wuxi and Foshan was also unchanged. As the traditional September-October peak season approaches, the stainless steel market is seeing a seasonal recovery window, but end-use demand has fallen short of expectations. Wait-and-see sentiment among downstream players has gradually intensified, and proc……
